Entrepreneurs - do not be daunted

Travelling in rural New South Wales recently I came across a couple who were really inspiring to any fledgling entrepreneur.

Andrew and Lynne Osborne have taken over the Deepwater Inn at Deepwater near Tenterfield. So what, you may say - consider this
-they are tea total vegetarians running a country pub in beef cattle and pigshooting country
-their previous life was spent between inner city Pyrmont and an advertising agency in the city
-the pub has burnt down and they are running it from a corrugated iron shed behind the old building
-the previous publican, who had let life get the better of him, had not only burnt down his pub he had also let the license lapse and not complied with building regulations when he set up the bar in the shed.

They have rolled their sleeves up and overcome all setbacks. The day I saw them they were relaxed (Lynn was painting a portrait in the shed bar). They are 8 months into a 2 year business plan. They have a cafe running, a caravan park out the back and are setting up a dude ranch focussed on fossiking and fishing with 20 cabins. All regulatory approval is in place to rebuild the 150 year old heritage pub - focussing on its original look. They feel then that they will have a good business that they can manage or lease out - depending on their ongoing transition to the country lifestyle.

The two lessons  of entrepreneurship that their journey reinforces is that you need a good plan that you can stick to when things go wrong and that things will go wrong - you need to expect that and manage the problems as they come up without letting it get you down.

If your driving past Deepwater call in and see how they are going.
